By Cameron Petet
Many people in Steamboat Springs spend their weekends running the area’s endless trails. Before you head out on the trails, however, you should make sure that you have the right equipment and that you have a solid idea of where you are heading. That way, you can avoid potential problems along the way.
The Right Shoes
One of the first things to remember when trail running in Steamboat Springs is that your shoes matter. For the best results, invest in a pair of trail running shoes. These shoes are about 75 percent running shoe, mixed with 25 percent hiking boot. The end result is that you get a running shoe that will support your feet, while providing the stability that you will need while out on the trail. These shoes often come with a tougher sole than traditional running shoes, so they can take the abuse that back country trails are sure to dish out.
Finding a Route
The other thing to worry about when trail running in Steamboat Springs is your route. You don’t want to end up too far off the beaten path unless you know how to get back to civilization. Before heading out on the trails, make sure that you know where you are going and, most importantly, how you will get back to your vehicle once you have completed your run.
